Paint Skin weight tool problem

OK i've made a skeleton for my marvin hero but now i have problem with influence of the bones... Is there another way of setting influence ? Or any tips of this method.
Here is my problem i've paint black so that there is no influence but when i move my bone the painted skin moves again ... and nothing happend.

Windows - > general editors -> component editor and make the influence of bones for each vertex ... this works for me user added image

alternatively make sure toggle hold weights is selected
paint weights can be annoying
