This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

MY UV

WELL, THIS IS MY OWN FIRST MODEL -no counting the tutorials ones- I DID IT BASED ON THE "HUMAN BASIC" TOTURIAL I DOWNLOADED HERE IN SIMPLY MAYA...AND EVERYTHING WITH MY MODEL WAS GOING PRETTY FINE...BUT THEN I OPENED THE UV EDITOR....IT WAS HORRIBLE¡
IT ALL IS A HUGE MESS, NOT THE CLEAN, NICE, INDIVIDUAL UVs U SEE IN THE WEB.....THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CAN´T REALIZE HOW TO FIX IT, OR WHERE TO DO IT...
IT LOOKS LIKE MILLIONS OF UVs OVERLAPING ON THEMSELF....
ANY ADVICE ON HOW COULD IT BE FIXED?

PS:I´ll be receiving comments on my model too =D

the built in maya tutorials on Texturing will help you a lot and is a GREAT starting point (as it is with everything else)

laying out uvs in maya is a HUGE topic

All the thing i can say is....what you are seeing is perfectly fine.

You can check it out like this.

Create a cube with default setting.(Create UVs > ON)
Then goto windows>UV Texture Editor(selecting the cube)
There you will see a clean uv map.

Now perform some operation on the cube like bevel, split edge and extrude and see the change in the uv editor.
.........
This is how things get messy.A simply cube is a small object and you might be able to follow the changes in the uv editor. But when it comes to large objects, or something like a human model you are doing, then things gets really messy.

But dont worry. This is how it goes. After modeling there the nest step comes is UV mapping. So it is entirely different phase of work, which you have to learn from the beginning.

also, like Chirone said, follow the tutorials that comes with maya. They will give u a good start.....and search google for UV mapping tutorials.
