This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

A lot of the times I say it must be me im going some thing wrong but its not always. One for me is photoshop 3D thing does any one use it? I used the photoshop 3d thing once, but I dont think theres really a whole lot that can be done with it....I'm sure someone out there has done something that would prove me wrong with it, but unless you spent along time exploring it I think it's fairly limited.

Dont mind the decimation in Zbrush much? The couple of times Ive used it its pretty much worked, I did over do it once...decimated 3 times or so I think, and by the third the mesh was looking a bit worse for wear.

Have you used it on your elephant toy challenge?

p.s Dave...you know theres a percentage setting in Decimation Master you can adjust, so you can decimate to 20% of the polys, or 78% or whatever you choose....

i'll throw in blender into this discussion.

I haven't used it for ages but I've used it a few times and found there is a hidden menu that you access by dragging some bar that doesn't look draggable.

and it's a useful menu too... why hide UI and not give indication that it exists?

I'll add my support to this. I used blender for a few hours once...not sure if I was even familiar with Maya at the time...think I tried to follow some tutorial to create a snowman...but just something about it, the u.i maybe, ...probably, but still, three years on, when I see or hear people mention Blender, a little part of me inside, groans.

i guess if you use a lot of pirate software its easy to moan about open source stuff. Never used blender but i hear its great... except when its updated and nothing from a previous version works.

regardless of whether or not the software is free you should never write your interfaces to have hidden menus that have no obvious way on how to show it.
