Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

UVing piping

I was UVing my tank and was getting frustrated by some simply thing like piping. I know a bent pipe is just a straight pipe that is bent so all I needed to do was transfere the uvs from a straight pipe to exruded one here is how I did it,I created a cv curve in side vuew then pulled it about some in prospective I then took a 6 side cap from a cylinder then douplicated it, one was used for the extrude and I set the divisions to 40 then deleted the caps for the pipe. I then extruded the spare cap straight up and set thats divisions to 40 same as the pipe then delete the caps. I now do a cylinder uv projection and set the sweep to 360 then in the UV editor I scale the uvs in and stretch them up. Nearly there now all we have to do is a transfere UVs using the setting with the screen shot. You might need to tweek the uvs or verts here and there but I think it give you a good starting point.............dave

Edit:forgot to say I rebuilt the curve uniform

Dave.

Use a nurbs cylinder. Bend all you like and the uvs remain intact as they are condusive to the nurbs surface and just 'follow'. Convert to poly. Tweak if need be. Add some salt and pepper - Serves 2 people LOL
