Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Ptex an end to UVing?

So ptex has been around for a while now but as it seems to be getting used more widely I am starting to wonder how long before it becomes a more standard workflow. As I understand you can now render ptex texture and displacement in mental ray, renderman and vray. Packages I understand to be supporting the creation of ptex textures are mudbox, Mari, 3d coat and stripes. I guess it will become more widely used once zbrush gives full support though. Also another deciding factor will be when video games can render ptex in real time due to 3d vector displacement giving some rather dramatic results. Just wanted to know if anyone on here is using ptex in there workflow yet and what your findings have been with regards to improvements and problems.

Cheers,

Leon
