Modeling a mechanical part...

Hi everyone,
My name is Antoine and I am new to Maya. I don't have any training in digital design so excuse my ignorance... I recently stated a project involving a few gears and metal parts; however i couldn't get the pieces to look good. I use the boolean and i want to know if there is a better way (and I'm sure there is user added image ).

Here is the piece that I did on Maya but as I use booleans there are polys with 1000s of sides and it's impossible to bevel the angles.

Anyone can help me with that?

Thanks a lot

AK

There a lot of work to get this to work, I did boolean as you did then did a good cleanup of the mesh to try to make all quads................dave
