Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

You cannot move points to co-linear verts on angled faces in Maya, I have tried a thousand times. Its a right royal pain in the butt, you have to do it by eye basically. I have cheated before on known angle and distances and actually used the vertex information to move them, again painful. If you find a way...let me know user added image Im a Surveyor and Maya SHITS me when I need to do this kind of stuff.

Engineers Suck.

I have a particular friend, we'll call him an Engineer.

He would argue that neither 9.999 recurring nor 20 - (9.999 recurring) = 10

I have attached an .ma file and I challenge you to find that they aren't (for all intents and purposes) exactly where infernosnow would want them.

Actually I just looked at it and I DO find a problem??? wtf... but I still think its negligible... though I was sure you wouldn't find anything at all.

Changed file.

Still not engineer 'Accurate'
(don't ever take him to Subway btw)

But I the file I attached wasn't even a proper mesh, It was from before I cut in the cube and triangular cylinder.. then stitched the mesh together properly.. though the verts I wanted to argue were in the right place, I rushed...

Ok I have a quick workaround, similar to the shape boolean but with edges instead...might post tomorrow if I get time user added image

Couldnt find a 'solution' either. Just a great workaround

I 'thought' I was shown a tool once where you moved a vert across the models geometry without altering the mesh's shape until you finalised your use of the tool... (if that makes sense) I thought the manipulator showed UVN rather than XYZ but after hours trying to find that particular tool... nada.

My workaround just involved the move tool, oriented to point so sliding the vert up and down does not corrupt that edge.. Then snapping objects pivot to your target edge (top of your toilet seat looking thing) snapping your object to grid then manually moving the vert onto the same grid line... zoom in rolling MMB and adjust vert again.. when you've zoomed in SOO far your move manipulators arrows go off screen the vert is as good as in the right place. I know purists will say that's still not exact... -meh-
