Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Sphere and Cylinder Conundrum

Hi Guys,

Rreally new to Maya here and loving it user added image, first post so please go easy on me. This one i bet is a real noobster, i can't for the life of me figure out the best way to do this within Maya, tried booleans, messy and not what i want. Watched many of ctbram0267 vids on youtube amongst countles other posts here ( although i may have missed them ). So please if anyone can take the time to show/exlain the best/cleanest way to attach a cylinder to a sphere id really appreciate it.
This is just some practice for me i don't need to know how to attach these objects for any particular reason, I think what im really after is how to attach these or two curved surfaces together cleanly.
Sorry for what im sure is a dumb question, Im just practising modelling and thought, it would be really handy to know how to do this, attached is a pick of the two shapes in question, id like it to look like this when smoothed nice crisp sharp edges etc, thank you in advance user added image.

I would rotate the sphere so it is in the same axis as the cylinder. You'll find it a lot easier to join up. Or rather have the cylinder vertically oriented on top of the sphere and then rotate the whole mesh to the side after.

Hi Guys,

Thanks alot for the replies, both things i hadn't thought about. But with that said im more curious how i would punch holes into objects, i think i picked those two objects as being a difficult one, more to the point there are plenty of tutorials on adding different shapes to each other but i couldn't find one with these two objects. Stwert at the risk of sounding child like what if i was unable to move the sphere and had to do it the hard way ? I understand concepts of support edges and edge loops etc what i can't seem to do is keep the curvature of both objects intact, sorry guys im sure this kind of question is as frustrating to you guys as it is for me, i may be biting off more than i can chew right now but any tips or references for me to study would be greatly appreciated. user added image

Cheers
