Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

its looking alot better! gotta ad dirt though.. Hmmm 10 mb?? Tried to zip it yet? Maya files when zipped are incredibly small. If you want you can send it here brian_ellebracht@digitaldejavu.com I think I can accept files under 5 mb, but when you zip the file, i am sure it would be much much smaller. If you are intersted in sending it to me, then if you don't mind send the textures that you allready have and I can rework those. THanks,
Brian

BTW, you could cut the file with a program... it cuts the file into maybe 3 - 4 pieces, then gives you a "batch" file to put it all together... just a suggestion. Oh and bettery... i highly suggest you render it on something other than light blue user added image.. dont know why, just looks wierd. Very nice so far, looking a lot more realistic!

Thanks for sending me the file! Haven't really worked on it to much yet, but I thought that I would post 2 images. Changed the color of the textures a bit and I changed the Specular highlights as well...Depends on what you want. Do you want to keep it blue? like for a snowy area? In that case I could make it look like there is snow on it or something. Or if you want to make it brown, then I can add dust/dirt. THe other option is to make it more like an urban assult tank thing, then you would want it to be more greyish, with dust. Hmmm... whats your opinion? BTW you have done a great job on the textures so Far! I was really impressed with the bump maps, I thought that it was all geometry, but you had me fooled. Nice job. Let me know if you want to to work on it anymore,
Brian

This looks great but here's my suggestions:

1> the map looks too blurred on the large flat aresas, it looks too much like "Filter>Render>Difference Clouds" user added image Maybe some more noise or something added in would help.

2> The panels along the side look too much like a bump map. Maybe a displacement map or even geometry would help and look better

3> Nice big gun! But it needs a bunch of ammo to be fired from it! E.g. a belt of ammunition would look excellent!

This would be a cool challenge, to be given a model and then everyone has to texture it and see who gets the best results.
I love the tank model though, loads of great details

Actually I think the belt of ammunition is in the box at the person's end of the barrel, like with the M249 SAW machine gun.
Having bullets hang out outside a tank wouldn't be very smart I think since the bullets would explode when they get hit.

Brian, thanks for the textures. Both of the them are great! I like them. The textures give the model more weight, more power and also more realistic. How I envy you!
I choice blue partly because I like it, but mainly because I did worse in other color. user added image
And I think if u can add some dirt to the belts and the wheels, it may be more fit to the whole.
BTW, if u can change it to the green color, I can add some cover, such as branchs and leafs... cover the model and let it go to the forest to perform some secret missions... just thinking...Haha. Thanks.
