Help with background planes

I was wondering if there was a way to be able to see through the background planes?

I'm modeling a car and sometimes I can't see the nurbs spline because the plane is actually above where I'm working.

Thanks.

If you mounted the images onto planes, select the plane shader in the Hypershade and change the transparency settings under R,G and B to something like 0.5.

Think I got that from the SM tutorial on making a shark so thanks to that if I did 8).

another "fix" would be not to put the image planes in the middle, but offset them so they are outside the actual modeling. if they are only visible in the cam that has them, then no need to mess with transparency.
