Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Quadro FX500 - Good for Maya ?

I just got a Leadtek GF5600 card 256 Mb but consider upgrading it to a QuadroFX500 (Leadtek also)

Is this a good move ? Does this card support Hardware Rendering as the 1000/2000 FX cards ?

I searched the Alias website but the qualification page says nothing about this one

Or should I insist on the 750XGL

Please note that I still do not use Maya Professioanlly so this is kind of a snobbish purchase (as in "yeah - I am one of those lucky nurds who have a Quadro...):p

I would definitely get a card that is listed on alias.

Personally I'm not crazy about any of the nvidia cards.
I've worked on boxes with Quadros. ( not that impressed )
and they would lockup sometimes.

A dirty little secret is that the regular 'unprofessional' gforce card and the
'professional' Quadro cards are the same cards.

If you have a solder gun and 10 minutes you can turn a geforce into a Quadro. (you void your warantee of course)

I've heard the 'fire gl pro's' kick ass and are the best card for the
money but I have no personal experience w/em. I use a wildcat.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinions

Anyway remember the card is gonna be the most important investment you make, and running maya with a good pro card
( listed under the supported hardware of course )
makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks

But as I have a limited budget the only choice I have is the FX500

And ATI FireGLs are out of reach as are the 1000/2000/3000
