Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Boolean Problems

This is a strange one, I am trying to make a cog by sticking things on and cutting bits out using Boolean.

I save my progress as differnt files along the way incase I make a istake, when I get to the finished cog I save as a new file again and exit.

I then open Maya and my cog file and I see nothing, I try and open some of the previous saves and there is nothing in them as well.

Can anyone help me because this is starting to get a bit anoying.

When you save your object make sure you are selecting the final object and not just the "invisible" booleans user added image

There are no "invisible" booleans. Booleans add or subtract from geometry and do not keep "invisible" pieces like subtraction brushes do, which are used in many of the popular game level editors such as QERadiant and UnrealEd.

Why it's disappearing when you reopen it is a mystery. But then so are booleans. user added image They do some strange things sometimes. But for them to be consistant with not showing up in any of the files is a bit peculiar. Just for sh!ts and giggles, try deleting the history on the geometry after you do the boolean and then save it.

Try walking us thru your process as well to give us more info.

Until you delete history, there ARE nodes that represent the "cutting" object. You CAN, conceivably, animate the location of the "invisible" object and animate the position of the booleaned hole that is created.
