Maya 2014 docs What's New

https://download.autodesk.com/global/...9BB01555F3.htm

Been having a read through some things. Things jumping out at me so far: Node metadata, create camera from view, incremental save (numeric incrementer), modelling toolset, edit edge flow.

Haha... preserve normals when freezing transformations, that's always been a minor nuisance.

File path editor will be handy when moving your projects around to different computers.
Node editor improvements look good.
Nice... filter for attributes in the Attribute Spreadsheet, no scrolling back and forth forever trying to find that one attribute.
Back, Left, Bottom ortho cameras from the panel menu.
I know there's been some good scripts for this already, but having a built-in grease pencil looks nice.
The bend deformer works in degrees now... that's a bit more intuitive.

And they've actually given some attention to paint effects, that's pretty surprising.
Skip existing rendered frames could be handy, I guess, but I doubt I'd ever use it.

Ooohh... I don't know if this is what I think it is, but there's a new -perframe flag for batch rendering with mental ray.

If mental ray does not render your animation correctly, use this flag to re-translate the frames from scratch. This feature is only available for batch rendering.

John, does this make your script obsolete?

I noticed that one, because it's the default behaviour in C4D... the new camera will have the exact same view as the current cam, so that's kind of a nice feature.

That preserve normals on freeze transform would be SO useful to me in my game modeling. Always have to reverse the normals on well over 100 different parts when I mirror things

Check out the new Autodesk site with redesigned logos. Not a huge fan of the application logos, but you can check out some of the what's new features on the Maya page.

Ew. So sick of everything being white and light blue. Everything trying to be "modern" has that same look now user added image
