bake boneAnimation to skin?

is it possible to bake the animation of a character directly into the skin itself so I have a vertex animation as a result? and if yes, which export plugin would support this?

I´d need a collada or x-file in the end. I could also use 3dsmax in case it offeres more options on this issue.

Yes it is possible as it will make the whole scene lighter for rendering. I dont think you need a plugin though Im sure you can do it thru Maya.
