Beginner: Lighting problem

This is my first post on this forum so, Hi all user added image,

I'm new to maya and trying to make my living room in 3D so i can learn in the process.
I have a little problem with the lighting.
When i render out my scene i get some bright spots.

This is my render:

I think my area lights (I got two of them facing towards each other) are the problem.

My area lights settings after changing defaults:

- Intensity 8000
- Quadratic
- Mental ray, Use light shape ticked

I have Physical sun and sky enabled at default settings and changed the direction a little.

I hope someone could help me out with this problem.
Thanks in advance,
ScymicX

I would recomend you get this tutorial if you can spare the change.

One thing I would do first though is finish modelling your scene before you look too much at your lighting user added image

Best of luck to you

Renders

I would highly recommend the above mentioned tutorial.

It is a great buy and easy to follow.

In your scene you still have a lot of anti aliasing issues and graininess.

If you post your render settings using screen grabs it will be faster for members to be of help as well
