edge selection problems

HI, i was wondering how i go about selecting just one edge rather than all the edges that the selection lasso touches.

ie, say i lasso around the horizontal edges of a sphere, wanting to just select taht one edge, maya also selects the vertical edges of the spehere that the selection lasso cross.

in max there is an option to only select things that are 'entirely' within the selection lasso, ie it ignores the ones the lasso crosses through.

is there a way to do this in maya?

thanks!

Adam.

Just click it rather than draging around it.

yup, as Zyk0tiK points out, when you have dozens or hundreds of edges to select each time, and not always the same ones, so you can't save them as a selection set.

(can you even save selection sets in maya?)

Yes. Create > Sets > Set, I believe.

You might could try Edit Polygons > Selection > Select Contiguous Edges. Works sometimes.

select contiguous edges!
thanks mike!

not exactly as quick/easy to use as i'd like, but that's one button that's getting added to my frequent-use tools shelf.

yep!

1) Try edit polygons>selection>select contigous edges

2) get the edge you want in a plane, drag select or lasso the edges, then drag deselect the edges above and below the one you want.

If you plan on selcting that edge alot then make it into a selection set. Create>Selection>Set or Create>Selection>Quick Set
