This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
At the moment Maya is most commonly used in film productions (coupled with the RenderMan plugin). That said things couls change seeing as Autodesk now own Maya! We could see a lot more of Maya's tools in Max or vice versa. Lightwave has also been used extensively throughout TV and films (Babylon 5, Serenity, Battlestar Galactica). But don't let this be the basis for which you choose an app (for example Max is also damned good). Film studios usually have hundreds of talented artists all working together plus they customise the software (with custom scripts and shaders) so much that it's usually a million miles away from what me or you could produce from the standard software. Go for the app you feel comfortable with, rather than the one that is more popular with film studios. Good luck.
