Rendering AVI files

I'm using maya 7 and I have a high end 128mb graphics card with a processor a little below 3.0gh (2.5?) and 512mb ram

anyway, when I render a movie using maya in avi format (the only movie render that is available) the resulting avi file has a bit of scrabling:

if you can't tell, this is a preview render and this is one frame. Only the painting is moving

render to a targa image sequence, then you use videomach or other software(as in after effects or similar) and import the sequence and export out as a video
