ferrari tut

Great tutorial - however i have a couple of questions.

1 Why do you convert the sub d model back to polys before you render it? It doesn't say in the tutorial and I was just wondering.

2. Also where can I go for help on creating a stret scene or something similar to place my model in?

really enjoy this site!

you convert to polys because sub-ds dont always render in mental ray...

thought id jump in and add - just for future reference.

Mental Ray does render SubD's but WONT render anything but quads, so if your mesh has a triangle or anything else thats not a quad it will most likely ignore that mesh and wont render it. sometimes it tries to compensate, sometimes it doesnt.

but yeh polysmooth is just as effective, if not better. user added image

wow its been so long since I checked here, sorry user added image

Actually the reason I convert back to polys before rendering is the fact that mental ray has not been designed to render sub d creases meaning all those nice hard edged lines that took a lot of effort to put in are lost on the render
