video rendering

when i try to render anything in maya to a video (avi) file its verry choppy and distorted... i can see the main object and main action but it jerks and black boxes apear everywhere.. could some1 explain why and how to fix it... oh yeah im very very new at this.

You should render to images instead, and then convert the images to avi-files later. There is a tutorial on this site about how you should do it I think.

look in the newbi section there are sticky with techniques and video on how to do rendering and convert to video ...
