How to "rip wallpaper from the wall"?

Hi there.

In my animation the carracter should rip the wallpaper from the wall which reveals another texture.
I placed a wall behind the other one. So I now need an easy way to animate the ripping of the first wallpaper. It should not fall down in one piece but rip in parts -> just imagine how you would grab an end of a wallpaper and try to tear it of -> you would only rip a piece of it.

It doesn't have to look perfect. Any ideas?

Have a look at 3D World Mag Website. They did a tutorial on a page turning in a book, and this is basically the same thing.
