Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

wind

Hi I am trying to find a plug-in or something for Maya that will let me do wind analyses on an object that was created in Maya, you know like a wind tunnel if there isn’t a plug-in is there a program I could use that would allow me to put my Maya object into a digital wind tunnel.

thanks

Have a look on Nextlimits site (the guys who make realflow) as i think that they have a package that does that.

Depending on how accurate you want it/need it you could use fluids or particles to get the job done.

thanks for that but its not what i am looking for thanks any way.

what I am looking for is to like simulate wind around an object and see its strong and week points. like a wind tunnel

thats what its designed to do! the products called Xflow.

Also you could do it using particles, set up a wind field to interact with the particles, make the particles interact with te hobjet adn off you go, it might not be as accurate but it would demo a principle, it was used as a illustration for the Bugatti Veyron

Here you go Robbie,

A simple 2 min example of using fluids to simulate a wind tunnel, like I said it probably isnt very accurate, but if your just giving a demo of it then its probably effective enough.

I made the "car" then put it inside a fluid container, made a cube scaled it to fit a wall and then made it emit the fluid, added an air field to push the fluid to the car and then set the car to collide with the fluid.

With some tweeking of colours of the fluid and maybe a nice bit of mel to cange the colour with the velocity of the fluid you could get some really good results for a display.

You can see on the first pic that the fluid is less dense to the rear of the car, and less dense on the sides in the second pic showing that it's moving round the object.

You could use particles too if youve got complete rarther than unlimited, also with particles you could assign arrows as sprites so they move and change direction etc with the movement

Hope its what your after, and if not it might give you some ideas

Cheers
