Gateway backup problem

I just bought a new Gateway computer and its prompted me to create a Factory Default Disc for a backup. It says I need either 14 blank cds or 3 blank dvds. So I put a brand new memorex DVD-R in and start the process. after 2 or 3 minutes it spits the disc out and says there is an error. Anyone know why its doing this or how to fix it? thanks

Try a DVR+R instead of a DVD-R.
