hmm, not sure what could be causing this problem. You could try smoothing the UVs in those areas, so they're a bit more uniform.

If not, you could try smoothing your mesh once before you export it.

But to be honest, I would turn off the UVs in ZB, makes things go a bit quicker, then when you're done switch them back on then export.

Interesting that dave.

Those are four sided, are you sure theres no overlap, non manifold polys once you smooth in zb. It may be worth relaxing them a little more in maya just to space them out. If its the inner ear area, you dont really need to worry.

But on the outside there looks to be a five sider on the edge (it may be your angle) there so that certainly wont help

I'd be tempted to UV map it in Z brush.

Thanks Guys
The only thing that worked in the end was relaxing the area, some thing to remember for next time..........dave

for me, the topology of that ear doesn't look great...
anyway the button with the 2 blue squares next to the magnet head button above the alpha button on the right hand side should show you if you have overlapping UVs.

hahaha yeah some punctuation may have helped there. user added image

This should highlight the shells in blue. if they are red, they are reversed. if there are parts that are darker blue, then they are overlapping. hope it helps user added image
