Object wont cast shadows

Hi, I have an object in my scene that isn't casting any shadow, it wont let me check the cast shadow box for some reason.

Any idea what I need to do to get this option back?

Ummm... It could be many things. We can't really help without the file.

I've never packaged up a scene before so I hope this works. I suspect image maps and things will not be there but none of that stuff should matter. I isolated the specific geometry that has the problem, I'm using Vray lights and materials but none of that has anything to do with the problem I don't think.
