Animating a Robotic Arm

I have been assigned a task to animate a Robotic Laboratory using Maya. I am very new in Maya hence facing alot of problems especially with animations.
I want to animate a robotic arm which picks up a dropper and drop the droplets in the concerned beaker. I have used deformers to make the picking part of the arm and now i want them to pick a dropper,i am doing this by changing the curvature but i have to change both the objects seperatly (dropper and the arm) like i am moving up the dropper and at the same time rotating the arm towards the beaker. Can this be done in one step? if yes, then how?

How do i animate to make it look like that the robotic arm is picking up a dropper?

Thanks in anticipation
