fbx problem or not?

I exported a group of objects from Max 2012 and imported them in to maya. i checked my uv maps and all the pieces had their uvs in place. somehow, when i combine the pieces together or group them to organize uv in 1 map, when i open uv editor, all the uvs are gone. when i seperate pieces, theyre gone also... Has anyone encountered this before?

It's because FBX, by default, creates a new UV set. When you combine objects, that UV set is destroyed. Therefore you need to copy the UVs from the secondary UV set, to the default UV set.
