how to get good house AO

Ave all

From two weeks i try to make good AO. I made this one (1 one).
And its good but it could be better. My friend make that one in max (2 one). Its not perfect but it have irregular shadows. Like it suppose to be imho.

How to make something like that?

Sorry, but filenames were not preserved. Which one is from Max, and which is from Maya?

Try lowering the max distance to sharpen the AO and get it just in the corners. What do you mean irregular shadows?

On second png ther is connection of "light" between doors. I try to get something like that and i was unable to. Shadows are "not regular" there. In my png (first one) in most of places shadows are the same size. They start from walls and go some distans strait from them. I don't like that and i want to make it better.

Any links, info will be grate because in AO and materials im noob.

I don't think you should necessarily use AO as your source of shadow. Use conventional lights to get the irregular shadowing you need. Use AO to add just a little bit in the details. Just my thoughts.

Thx for advice you got right with light map and making it with AO. But how make a shadows soft in light map? There are now like good knife cut, straight and sharp.

Are you sure you're not rendering in something less than 8 bit?

First i need to tell you i love that forum. I never do not receive so much help in forum. And im grateful to you all.

Daverave i watched the tutorial you suggest, but that do not give me the answer a need. First active light on scene make a spot light. The edge between light and dark is sharp. I want to soft it but I still do not know how.

NextDesign i use more then 8 bit's.
