Not a bad effort mate! I see 2 shadows in the images? I think the electric blue background is too harsh, I think a softer colour or soften the one you have will do it more justice.

LOL study. study. study. I would use an area light, not too far away and not overly bright. Or use 2 but dont forget to disconnect 2nd one from geo.....dot forget if you used textures to add simple lens to camera and adjust gamma (you probably already know this). Do a Beauty pass and an ambient occlusion...set ambient to 128...then compose in GIMP or PS. If you need help send me the file, I am not very good myself but better than before.
