Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Weird problem extruding?

Hello, everyone. Completely new to the world of 3D modeling. I'm having this weird issue with extruding vertices, I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen.

I didn't want to post the picture here because it's too big. Are the vertices supposed to go down like that? As soon as I hit extrude on the shelf, that happens. TIA.

Also, does anyone know how to mirror? Like select 4 vertices, 2 on each side, or 2 edges, and have them both move at the same time, but in different directions so that they mirror each other? Also forgot to mention I have Maya 2014.

Hi Fireheart,
Yes, it looks like you're using the Vertex Extrude command, where you probably want the face extrude command which is more useful. As for mirroring, you can turn on symmetry in the move tool settings. Experiment with World, Object, Topology and the Symmetry Axis to see what symmetry mode works for your model.
Hope that helps.
