Overgrowth/Vines Tuts

Looking for Tuts on creating Vines growing on old temples etc.. to make some Archetecture look old etc..

If it is not to close up, a painted vine texture with bump mapping might do the trick. for a closer shot, you could also consider combining/making some paint FX brushes and build your vines that way.

Make your architecture live surfaces, draw curves on them, then put a Paint Effects brush to the curves user added image

Remember that you can always edit the Paint Effects after you create them so don't worry if they don't look right at first user added image

How do you put the paint effect brush to the curve? Use make paintable?

I was thinking along the lines of drawking some curves and extruding a tube along it to get a decent wiggly vine shape. Then tweaking to the desired effect.

Witchy - You select the curve, then choose Paint Effects>Curve Utiilities>Attach Brush to Curves. (all under the Rendering menu)

Oh that's helpful thanks! (some great inforamtion you are giving out lately btw, good stuff!). I shall go and try that; want some vines and plants for my cave without adding geometry and the regular paint effect curves don't always seem to end up where I want.

Thanks! user added image I will be finished my Bathroom today (cleaning up mntal ray shadings) then plow into FX, as I said never had a use for it yet so I'l start reading up on the tool user added image
