Rendering Question...

Hello All,

I am just MR. Questions lately...

Well..here it goes

What is the difference between Hardware Render and a Software Render in Maya?

I mean I understand that a hardware render uses the Graphic card and the software I assume uses MAYA..but what's the difference???

Which do most people use? I know this is a loaded question but I wanted a knowledgebase to go by.

Thank you so much for your time and help!!!

The difrence is that the software render can be used for things like reflections. Radisity. etc. Shadow quality is way better than hardware if you can get your hardware to even do it. It also has much more quality with your lights. And it can handel more of them. Mine only handels like 16 lights.. which might sound like a lot but if your going for Global Illumination its inportant. It can handel bumpmaps and color, spec.. Hardware most often can only handle one of thoughs at a time.

As to which one do people use both.. don't know about the rest but I use both. The hardware is way faster, so if you need to see what animations will be like you use the hardware to cheak it befor the time consuming software render. but that is me. befor I started doing any animating I never used the hardware.. I always waited the extra minet.

Help.. don't know if I have bean. and I'm sure there are better ansers out there.

Also, many particle effects can only be rendered in hardware.
