dang the odds were heavily against portugal...
if the greeks didnt managed to make a goal, if the russians manged to make another, if the coach had made us atack from the beginning (instead of saying: let them crash in our defense and then kick the ball up to whoever takes it on all the frist part(which definitely isnt our gameplay style) until we make and error and then attack), if the referee werent clearly helping portugal(with lots of blinks from the portugese players to the refereee clearly seen on the frist planes), a yellow to albelda for nothing on the start, just to scare, and then lots of faults made by portugese players in front of the assistants, which were probably were looking at the public...

Anyways...who were gonna say it, the russians won the greeks! and we lost against portugal!!!!... will england loose against croatia?

Here managed to get this small pick of the party. I am trying find more.

everyone blames the refs. If Portugal lost I would probably blame him two. Got to blame somebody!

Can't blame the spanish for playing a terrible game!

Anyways, It was a fun match to whatch. My heart was racing about 200 km/h during the game.

dragon fx Portugal won fair and square...even the Spanish coach said that Portugal showed more passion bla bla...

All Spanish fans were saying that Portugal deserved to win because Spanish played like girls ;-)

If it makes you feel better then do blame the referee. I think the
pornstar turned refree did a great job for such a difficult match.

Did you notice how the Spanish players and Portugese players could not hold their smile back when the refree was shouting at them like a big pornstar befor a corner was about to be taken:-)

Last 15 minutes was nightmare. My wife was in tears for the whole 15 minutes. I was a nervous WRECK!!!

As far as I am concerned this Euro is a success for me now. Anything extra Portugal achieve will be a bonus.

Nothing can beat knocking Spain out ;-) Don't you agree Dragon LOL!!!

im not denying (in fact im the frist to admit) that we played bad,(bad is not bad enough but i dont know the word i need to describe it) the spanish coach was awful, the tactics (specially on the frist part were bad beyond deseving any comment) and in the spanish gameplay primed the individuality, but even then the match was boring to look at because even with those elements the portugese didnt overwhelmed us as should have happened playing like that (if we did played like that for example against france it would have been a 8-0)...

on the other side, the faults in front of the assistants that were "looking to another place" and the yellow to albelda for nothing(when there were other faults more deserving) are a fact user added image

you know what?... with the odds that were on sunday before the match, if we did played soccer (just play not even play well, what we did was something but not soccer) i would have been screwed because portugal won, but with the lamentable spectacle seen yesterday... (and the 5 hrs of driving back to madrid from barcelona)i just dont feel anything

OK seriously both teams were nervous and burdened by the weight of history. In the 1st 20 minutes Spain gave the ball away easily and Portugal played with some venom.

I don't think France would have won 8:0 yesterday. Actually I watched the whole match again few hours ago and Portugal could have easily scored 4-5 more goals. Actually they should have...they must if they want to go any further.
Spain could have scored 3-4 goals as well.

Look referee had no effect on the result any neutral person would say that. No desicion by the pornstar was match changing.

Odds are meant to be broken. Spain did not convince me in all their group matches. Portugal did not convince me either but the fact is Portugal topped their group you cannot argue with that.

Greece beat Portugal but it was obvious that it had nothing to do with football but more to do with Portugese having no bottle ie. they could not handle the pressure. I am not making excuses because the fact is Portugal lost to Greece. I can make excuses but the fact is fact.

Yesterday Spain did not attack partly because they thought they could hold out and partly if they did Portugal would have exploited the space. Did you even think that Spain maybe lost because Portugal did not let them play the way they would have liked???
In the 1st half Portugal was all over Spain. Ronaldo really troubled your defenders. Players like Poyle were in 2 minds about attacking due to Ronald & co.

Portugal got 2 yellow cards as well just one less than Spain. So that is an non-issue unless you wanna make excuses.

Just looking at the standings there and looks like a huge mess. All four teams look like they can still pull it off there. I think France will end up first there. which leaves three. Hmmmm. I pick England up against the Portuguese next round.

England still needs to draw or beat Croatia.
Croatia has got the game to beat England. Let's see what happens tonight.
France will beat Switzerland that is guaranteed.

If Sweden and Denmark draw then Italy will be out.

Holland is 80% out.

Portugal will have to beat England or Croatia in the quarter finals.

Let's see what happens. When Coutu came on as a sub he looked so nervous and sad :-) Carvalleho has made certain that Coutu will stay on bench for rest of the matches :-)

i dont think portugal didnt let us play our game... i think we didnt even thinked about attacking on the frist part because the damn coach felt too comfortable... you know, we only had to draw, portugal didnt won us since 16 yrs ago and with russia winning 2-0 to greece at the moment he didnt even tough about playing soccer(we would have passed even loosing)... things changed when greece scored(i bet he said something like: "dang!, regroup the middle of the field and start touching the ball instead of blindly launching the ball to the other side that is what they like..." that was what happened) and little after portugal scored (because our defense was unordered and misplaced ) then all "Hurry we have to start playing and even start thinking about attacking" (that its what we should have done from the beginning) and in 30 minutes what do you want... little opportunitys and those we had: raul fumbled misserably with the head and torres almost broke the goalpost

Couple of years ago in quarterfinals of under 21 or U19 European championship Portugal were in the same situation as Italy is in now.

Guess what Italy and Switzerland played a very relaxing draw so that they could both go to the semifinal thus knocking out Portugal.

Now Italy is worried that the same might happen to them in the senior form of game LOL!! History repeats itself ;-)

Then it's not even an issue you definately deserved to loose ;-)

Look it's simple Spain thought that they could keep Portugal at bay by defending with 7 players at the back playing defensive Italian style football.
Why did they think that???? Spain knew that if they went for offensive play then there was a 50:50 chance that Portugal would beat them.

I am sure the coach ALONG!!! with the players thought that they had more than 50:50 say 80:20 chance of playing a defensive counter attack style of game and succeding.

Guess what Portugal made them pay.

Yes Spain could have scored 3-4 gols SO COULD !!!! have Portugal.

If you see the match again you will see that the easiest chances fell to Portugal. Yes you hit the post...so did Portugal ;-)

In the end the beauty from Nuno Gomez was a KO.

Sorry dragon I am rubbing it in...it's just been 23 years since Portugal beat Spain ;-)

Oh! and all Spanish players despite their rheoteric before the match knew that history did not mean anything as they very well knew and actually respected the capability of Portugese players.

Look it was also clear that Spain like spoilt brats started to get aggressive when they realized that they might be going out.

-We arent italians, the italian soccer style never suited spain, and yesterday wasnt an exception, if we had our natural gamestyle from the begining we would have had much more opportunitys than 50:50....

-so what, the point was that playing dull and defensive we didnt even arrived to the post in 60 minutes because thats what happens when you play dull and defensive, if we had started playing offensive(or at the very least with a stronger better structured middle) from the beginning we would probably have had more opportuntys than the portugese... and they wouldnt have caugh us in the middle of a shift of tactics(that is where the portugese goal comes from)...

Football is not about IF's it is about WHAT HAPPENED ;-O

When Portuugal gets knocked out in the quarter finals or semifinals then that will be the reality. No amount of IF's from me or any Portugese fans will mean anything.

You say if Spain had attacked from the get go they would have maybe had more than 50:50 chance of succeding.

You don't know that!!! You are making a big assumption. Spain were not convincing in any of their matches. Yes like Portugal they can be good on the ball but their finishing lacks sharpness.

Check the Greece and Russian matches.

It's obvious that like most Spanish people you have serious issues regarding a small neighbour like Portugal beating you. Same happened when Porto beat you in your own backyard.

Now tell me are you gonna return our occupied land or what??? LOL!!! :-O

i know that:
60 minutes defensive opportunitys= 0 (goals taken1)
30 minutes offensive all the opportunitys (goals taken 0)
no big assumption that if you play offensive you get more opportunitys...

if you are attacking they arent
and if you have a stong middle you
a)get more opportunitys and more precise instead of launching the ball from the rear and hope a point man catches it
b)cut the opponent opportunitys there instead of leting them arrive
that is true particular matches apart
