This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i
Today I started working on the body. Here's what I have so far. Tomorrow I'm going to give him legs and a head.
I've been thinking though... How can I dress him? I use NURBS by the way, so I find it's hard to find tutorials for that; maybe some one here knows one? The other thing was the feathers. How should I aproach that? I'm talking about the little feathers covering his entire body. I was thinking about using fur because since the feathes are so tiny and packed you can hardly tell they're feathers, but I don't know... there's probably a better way; any ideas?

If you made it in polys or convert it to polys you can do this.
1) Select all the faces you want to have feathers on
2) Go to Polygons>Tool Options>Keep faces together (turn it off)
3) Go to Edit Polygons> Extrude Face, and extrude them all.
4) Pull them all, to make them bigger. (See Attachment)
5) Using the same extrude, use the scale tools. Click on the red one. Then grab the middle one, and scale down.
6) Tweak Away!
Heres what I tried on a poly Sphere

I am also trying to see if I can use fur for the little feathers covering the entire body. I got this right now (note: the geometry has nothing to do with the pirate, it's just a sphere I'm using to see the results)

the body + leg + peg + hook. I'm only missing the head (and then I can put the hat on it) and the jacket (still don't know how to start that.. )
I also attached some fur to the chest/abdomen area to see what it would look like. Convincing? Not? Suggestions?

How's this? I put a little rubber at the end of the peg.
I also attached fur to the rest of the body and put the hat there just to get an idea of how it'll be later. And from now I'll be posting at a higher resolution since the model is more advanced.
I'm going to give it a try with using Maya Cloth for the jacket... but last time I tried it didn't went very well... You see, I'm having a problem figuring out how to keep the jacket open, but not falling to the sides. I mean, a t-shirt is just one piece and so the model can't escape thru the front or something (and usually tutorials show you t-shirts, pants, or any piece of "closed" cloth); but a jacket is not actually conected in the front, only by buttons (in real life) but how can I do that in maya? If I just create two panels in the front and unconected the jacket will open and fall to the sides leaving the belly in the air. Suggestions?

I got the head on. And the eyes blink too (I get exited over the littlest things)
I'm not sure about the neck though... I thought of making it thicker, because you can't see a parrots neck, but then I thought "this isn't really a parrot" so I figured a normal neck would be better.
Now I think all I have to do is dress him and rig him
