Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

As usual, the blade has WAY to much glow.

The glow looks fine to me, but as far as I remember, the blade is about as thick as the handle, and the glow even goes a little beyond the handle... But I might be wrong user added image

How come the blade has no reflection on the ground?

Sounds like he hid the original model or something and just has the glow. That or it was done in photoshop or something.

I have to agree with blomkaal, the blade is as think as the handle and don't be afriad to turn that glow up. user added image

Yeah after looking at the latest pic again, I'd say turn up the glow even more to make it seem more than a light than an object. You might be able to do this post by blurring the blade or something. Hope you understand what I mean, it's a bit hard for me to explain user added image

Nearing perfection on the blade/glow user added image

But if I were you I'd throw the reflection (all of it) far, far away. The blade looks odd, and, obviously, it doesn't look right if the blade's not reflected when everything else is...
