Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

A good tutorial that comes with references is the Joan of ark one. Just google it and it'll come up.

kinda distorted as you said, because of image planes that dont line up... besides that, any suggestions?

The body dosent really follow the anatomy for a human, have a look at some anatomy books or google some ref pics for muscle flows.

Also as siad before have a look at some wireframes of other peoples work to give you some idea of how your going to constructthe topology for the model.

Could you post some wirefames of your models as this would help out in seeing whats going on.
