This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
arran: Cheers. I believe everything was measured to scale so it may just be the lense which makes the cars at the edge of the image look larger than in the middle, I will have another look at the original file to double check, but as jay point out the shot isn't about them and you never ever see them again anyway.
Jay: Actually the pipe is just a pipe with a bump map on it Lol!
But it fooled you so it's good enough for me. Not planning on going overly close in on his helmet, if I do I'll displace it.
Maya hasn't arrived yet, doh. How you getting on with 'soft'?
Staying close to the Vision 2020 design except I moved the tube so it connects in the back of the helmet rather than the side as it does on the real model. I thought it would look better and make rigging it easier.
I have to build another version of these soldiers for later in the first chapter, an elite team for which I will take this model but give it a redesign of my own, which should be fun.
I had a go with Soft, very nice, but as Im in Maya mode so to speak Im just going to go with that, get shave in a month or two, with a bit of luck. But the way things have been it could be sooner.
Soft is great, given a month I think I'd get on with it real nice. Similar to Maya in many ways, but different, if that makes sense. But I need to get on with stuff so figured no point arsing with other 'wares' getting into Zb was bad enough LOL, not that I regret that of course!
Exactly my thoughts, on the matter, plus I felt there was prob an element of 'the grass is greener' type of thing when looking at other apps. Ok so it is cheaper with hair and cloth but, We've been using Maya full-time for what, 5+ years so it is a big leap to switch everything over.
As for the pipe, was just about to model it and then thought, hang on, NO!
all the detail in the back panel is bumped. Gonna have a few pages with half a dozen or so of these guys in combat, and then some with their helmets off showing their face too so looking to keep it simple.
The body is just a basic block out shape at the mo, as I'm extracting from it and when all the other bits are done there prob won't be any of it left, as it will be made up of a hell of a lot of panels and layered sections, basically it will be all right in the end.
I would upload another ref pic to show you but the hard drive with the ref on is going through error checking at the mo.
Been having a fab time with disk errors this week.
Don't you just love having to switch between being an artist and a technician to get a job done = No!
