If it's going to be on a black background, I wonder about adding some kind of rim light or kicker to separate it from the background, especially on the stem.

Does it have to be a specific type of light or can it be a spotlight?
Could you show me an example of what it is supposed to look like, please?
Thank you. Well, that will be the last touch though, I still need to model the branches / leaves on it, and then I'll copy the rose and make it white, as I need a white one too (with a bit of yellow gradients, to make it look like my mother's white roses).
I've decided to just create the leaves out of a plane. The veins are part of the stem, so they can stick out on both sides, a bit more on the underside of the leaf.
I've tried extruding the leaf out of the stem's veins, but that proved too annoying, so I went with a plane.

Any brighter than that and it starts to look too weird. Some people have told me to add darker gradients and make the edges lighter.
And my mom told me to straighten the leaf stem.

Oh yeah, and... my mother has lots of red roses... but their color is nowhere near as bright as what I see online. How can I be sure that the googled pictures haven't been photo-manipulated to "bring out the color" out of the flower?
For example, this looks natural to me:
But this seems like it had its colors / saturation altered:

The leaves should be a lot bigger, unless you're creating an intentional visual effect where the flower is massive. Try also adding some color variation or subtle bump on the petals.
