i dont know how an octane2 performs... i hadnt seen one...
But at its time a Athlon K7-1000Mhz kicked the ass of any O2 any day (well the graphic card of the O2 was better but everything else...) (also we had 8mb gaming 3d cards on the pcs that were outdated even at that time, but then i cant comlain as i got 75h of maya training with an active pro for free... (enough to grasp the basics)

I'll be sure to take a look at it. As for money, that is a problem but I'm going to save for a while to get my system. I can use the network at school for the time being.

3Demon - I think $58.000 for the Octane2 is a bit much.

I don't know if you're going straight for a top-notch system, but the Octane2 starts at $17.495.

BTW: A couple of weeks ago, I have created a little pdf for a friend who was completely ignorant of SGI systems (ok, he's into web hosting, not visualisation, but hey!). Find it in the attachment.

I believe it's not officially released yet.

If you buy one of these AMD systems now, you'll get a pre-release version which you can update if it is finally out.

Animal Logic looks for a minimum of 3 years professional work for most of their positions and I have, as of this moment, none

Me neither but I still got into framestore.... You just need to apply for junior positions at the beginning of projects user added image Anything above junior will require 3 years experience user added image

You'll get there eventually dont worry

AMD.... *shiver*

I was working on an AMD system when all of a sudden it locked up and then shut down. Then an odd burning smell wafted thru the air followed by smoke from out of the exhaust port.

They say AMD is a work horse. But sometimes work horses need to be put out to pasture. :p
