Thx Mumbo / thankyou Pony...yea looks quite plain at the mo as im really just roughing everything out as the first stage...then ill start adding and deleting edges to see what looks best for facial detais , rib cage, lower back etc...before extruding for clothes, bracelets etc . Im Pretty much happy with the general shape now and iv just tweaked up the hands a lil bit more.
Iv gotta work quick as poss as i havent tuted myself up very much on animation and avi output so i need plenty of time for that....yikes!!
Heres where im at...3000 triangles at mo ! https://www.screameagles.com/saya/saya11.jpg
I think you've got a lot of unneccesary geometry. Your average 3k poly character is fully clothed with hair and everything. Even with a 5k limit, I'd think you'd be about half way with the clothing, weapons, etc at the 3k mark.
Thx Ice.. yea Mike there is certainly a lot of unnecessary geometry at the moment but i like to get the general shape of the character as best i can then have a lil fun tweaking away and reducing while adding what detail i need ...wether it be armour ,clothes etc ...youll probably find in the next few shots that the details will appear and the polygon count will remain roughly the same as i get tweaking her up...just a personal preference on the way of doing things i guess, as i find if i try and model a character with all the armour clothes etc first ...i tend to lose the feminine/masculine..etc shape of the underlying model...if that makes any sense...but yes your right at this early stage.
Hay Chipper, I understand what you meen about lusing the feminine/masculine if ya don't start with the body as a base. Cool. ruff shaps, some say you should do it like this even when just drawing in 2d.
Ahh yes Pony...thats a better example of what i mean, like when you sketch a character and add the other stuff following the guides of the character...thx for putting it more clearly
Oh yes and Mike...Question: Does that mean the weapons are included in poly count?...as most games have seperate weapons with there own poly count which connect (depending on which weapon) to the hand bone right? Which means it shouldnt count in with the character poly count ...this is the way i was doing this character with weapon polys disregarded.
Your character wouldnt necessarily have a weapon until they picked one up.... i would have thought having a 1500 poly limit on the weapon would have been cool but sup to you
Added some clothes detail and started the head thingy...not too much to do now regards the modelling so i think ill be okay poly wise...depends on the weapon really i guess.
Added some colour so things can be seen a lil better. https://www.screameagles.com/saya/saya12.jpg
The helmet has added to the geometry some but i think im still safely within the polycount limit at this stage...defined the eyes..neck an shoulderblades a little more, added the costume strap and played with the eyes a little. Originally i said 4000 for the character but ill try and keep it below that so when i add the weapon it should take it to near the 5k limit, deleted quite a bit of the unnecessary edges made while getting the general character shape. https://www.screameagles.com/saya/saya13.jpg
