The only thing Maya has over Max, imho, is the all-in-one... Max almost requires you have tons of plugins in order to get high-quality production effects... while in Maya, you have most of those options available out of the box.

There are a lot of plugins for Maya, as well, but aside from rendering plugins, you probably don't necessarily have to have them.

I have been modeling one character for real time engine which consists of 29K facets(triangles) a also setting it up by smooth bind and blendshapes ... It was very funny work. I can't imagine I would do that work in 3D Max. I'm looking for that character to see it in action in real time engine, which is based on "smoothbindlike" method of skinning. user added image
