Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

more updates... did the hair. pretty much played it by ear, extruding faces, pushing and pulling vertices. i question the efficiency of how i did it though..took me very long to complete.

What kind of polycount are you shooting for? Right now, I would guess that you're trying to keep it below 1500.

The main thing you'll want to do eventually is soften your edges, so you get a bit smoother look without adding geometry.

You'll also want a little bit more facial details. Right now, the face looks kinda like one of those Lego heads. user added image

Even if you do not want to model enough articulation for eye blinking, mouth moving, etc, you'll want to have some basic form of a head, such as nose, chin, cheeks, etc.

yeah trying to keep everything as low as possible since i plan to export this out to OpenGL.

i was shooting for something that resembles the old Final Fantasy 7 models from the Playstation with the faces textured on user added image

Well, technology and technique has improved a bit since then. Even if you shoot for the same polycounts as the FF7 models, you should be able to get better looking stuff these days.

Looking forward to it.
