Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Niiiiiice... Love your modeling as always user added image. You should probably smooth the chair arms in the end, but it's already real good. I see this is going to be a tough battle. Btw, how did you achieve those colored light patterns on the back of the glass-case? Are they a texture, because i don't see any glass objects around to think they're a caustics effect.

ok so i decided: once i fine tune mine, I probably will reformat it to have a desk and stuff in it. Then i will reformat it to be a bedroom, and then see what time I have left.

lol, and what accounts for 2/3 of all of the polygons in my scene is the cord for the plug, its 6500 polys! out of a total 9300 in my scene XD.

*laughing* yeah i know, it's the small things nobody ever notices that take most of the time (our time and rendering time user added image ). You could however reduce the poly count considerably if it's going to be seen real small. Anyway, looking forward to that desk user added image. Btw, did you figure out the caustics? I'd just love to see a close-up of that shelf with caustics enabled. user added image

Sure, here is what it was. It looks exacty the same with and without the photonic material plugged in. And, actually, what takes up the render time is actually what has the least amount of polys: the plane underneath, that has an astonishing... 1 POLY!

lol user added image ANyway, here are tha vases.
its just a segment of my big render that I made for my wallpaper.

Got it, thanks. Works great as a wallpaper. It's not tiring to the eye and the color doesn't contrast the shortcuts on my desktop either. And 1280x1024 is exactly the resolution i'm using user added image. Nice work user added image

Looks great Matt. Like I've said before I'm no render expert but I THINK you can get almost the same results with a simpler method other than MR and MUCH less render time, especially with the speed of your computer.

Hi matt nice pic! just like to make a few suggestions if thats ok. perhaps it would be better to make the floor texture a little smaller coz the gaps look a little too big...and if u want to improve the picture it could be a good idea to have less light to take away from those over exposed areas. nice work and keep at it!user added image

Thanks! Ok, but the floor like I said is just a placeholder. And as for the non-mr approach, I dont think its possible, as Ive researched the subjct pretty deeply. Anyway, thanks for the comments!

Ahh yeah cool Matt, looking good so far!

But im astonished at some of the render times, managed to get my scene to render at less than 10mins for 640x480

with FGather, Global illumination, raytracing the whole bundle

But looking good so far mate!

cheers

Jamie.

I might be wrong guys but when it comes to software rendering I thought the processor is the one who really counts and not the ram. I mean yes, ram is needed to store data, but it's not that important... Or at least so i thought... Please correct me if i'm wrong.
