not really, although i am a bit of a pimp (in a cool way).

Its not that hard to get into music, just get a cheap guitar and start mucking around, thats what i did.
When you are confident that you want to keep playing then you can have some fun and get yourself an expensive one (look how shiny my resonator is for example).
The internet is perfect for getting started as well because it is convinent and you can go at your own pace.
