Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

I think you right there Rick, maybe the simplest way would be to run a merge verts on this model before smoothing.........dave

I wonder mates that the problem isn't in ngons. I have done them but the problem still persists and it's the same on the back side of main body and there's no some "f" or etc.; just simple plane.

The ngons have nothing to do with the texture seam. The seams are because the uv's for the borders are in a different area of the texture map. You would have to join the borders to the main body so they are adjacent in the uv space to eliminate the seams. The alternative would be to use a projection painting application to project the textures but seams will be inevitable.

You can try to hide them or place them where they might naturally occur. Where two different parts of the violin are for instance. These would naturally have slightly different grain.

This is based on what I see in the uv map here https://simplymaya.com/forum/showpost...3&postcount=24

It looks like the borders of the violin and the f's are are in their own shells.

So, I'll try to join the borders to the main body. Hope it will works. Btw, whole violin's body gonna be textured by one type of wood so it ought to be nice then. Thanks!

There so many places which are "bugged" like those which I've posted. Really don't know what to do... :/ Probably I will close this project for a while and then remap it from the beggining.

Dont give in man....keep at it...UV maps and texturing is a real pain in the bum. As has been suggested try to map and end up with seams in either hidden areas or along lines you wouldnt notice. I had the same trouble when I did my Spitfire...and I didnt solve it...but now I think I can. So keep trying mate...it will only get easier

cheers bullet

Well, after I've become more motivated (Thanks mates!) I've tried it serveral times more, spent couple of hours with that, edited UV's and now it seems to be good. Gonna prepare some textures and try to make final render. Can you give me some tips about render; should I render it in passes or how? Thanks again!

Creck

btw here is the result of Uv:

I would try and get a good render first, sort out your texture Bump and specular maps with lighting to show of the wood, Then when you are happy with that render layers...........dave

There are some free tutorials here, look at dome lighting to get you started and some lighting set ups, also there is a layer tutorial but that is not free but reasonably priced (I hope Im on a bonus here LOL)...........dave

Edit:render layer is in the dynamic tutorial section?

Hi there,

after watching a couple of videos about lighting and shadows I've tried to do a quick composition. Problem is that I really dont know why are shadows so weird, low quality... any suggestions ?
