Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Ahh ok, I didn't think too much of a differance in setup

i'm running a aingle P4 3.2Ghz with 1gb of ram.

I think Cris is right too, processor will determine the speed of the render while ram is important for being able to render large poly scenes. Example someone running on 512mb of ram would only be able to render a scene with 1/4 of the size of sumone running with 2gb, but if they have the same processor the render times should be somewhat similar (providing the same scene and render settings are used ofcourse)

again, I might be wrong, but i'm almost certain this is the case.

Cheers,

Jamie.

jahydock is right. I did a bit of research... but the ram does help, as it stores the already rendered data during rendering. (henceforth the image size thing). Now, I have a

Pentium 4 with HT, 3.2 ghz processor. But as I said...

your render setup is different from mine. Not that mine cannot be optimized: I rendered one yesterday and it looks exactly the same, but it took only about 40 mins to render.

That's exactly what i was referring to jhay user added image... Processor determines render speed when it comes to software rendering (video card determines hardware rendering speed) and ram determines the amount of data that can be stored...

Glad we all agree user added image

Hmm good point, when is the deadline? Come on Simon... We're waiting for the big showdown user added image.

PS: Matt, if you're up for another challenge when you finish this one i was thinking of an idea recently.

Btw: I didn't check the rules section too carefuly, but can more than 2 people compete in a challenge? Or is that true only for tournaments?
