Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

so vlad, what makes you like XSI so much especially if you are taking classes whcih uses maya, why not use maya for personal learning? I found more ppl who use XSI uses maya as a 2nd program instead of 3dsMax so im thinking there is a connection so Im curious

i find xsi to be better than maya on so many levels, especially rendering and modeling

plus demand for xsi users are rising more and more.

knowing maya is like something i can always fall back on. maya is fun and capable, and sometimes fustrating,
i like both. but use xsi at home and maya in school. :p

woot! 1500th post

Ha Vlad sorry to bother you one last time. What are your setting for those renders because they are sweet. I just started using this program since i seen everyone at siggraph using it so i was like hmm let me try. Also when you smooth, are you using the smooth or subdivisions.

thanks Minstrel.

im a student now, graduating next month. user added image maybe :p

for the render [XSI] i use a phong then plug the MR ao shader into the ambient. and plug the output of the AO into an intensity node, then plug the outvalue of the intensity in the color.

same thing in maya but u would use a clamp node instead of a intensity node. i get same results both apps use same mental ray renderers version and almost same lights.

Great work.

I also am a student. I'm specializing in character setup and this looks like a fun model to rig, if you'd like to see it move or in an animation (I have animators that would have a blast with that).

PM me if you'd like to let me rig it for my reel (with creds to you) user added image
