cpu running at 99%

and with NOTHING at all open!

go into task manager and EXPLORER.exe is maxing my pc out, I cant even open a dam folder!!!

any ideas?

Kill the Explorer !! LOL umm, Probably easyest would be to reinstall one. Sounds like one of though addwares got to it in a bad way. Or you could go through the options and tern off things like the activeX and Java stuff till you can pin down more whats the problem.

Me I would save the favrets some whare, and nuke it ! reinstall it.

I had a similar problem and discovered that DMA wasn't enabled for my discs, so all the transfers were in charge of the CPU!
Also check your pc for spywares, as they often have this kind of effect.
If you are using Xp, it colud be a good idea to not show the folders in preview mode.
