Best way to render different stuff in a scene?

Hey guys!

Is this the best way to render different shots from 1 scene?

I have a scene with a planet, background stars and a space station, I'm saving it in 3 different scene (this are the shots I need) and then compose it in after effects.

scenes based on the MASTER scene describe above:

one - a camera looking around stars (only)

second - a slow zoom at the planet without the background stars and no space station

third - a moving camera focusing on the spacestation no stars no planet

all renders are TARGA files.

Im rendering each scene with an utility called netrender.

Any suggestion will be appreciated, I'm trying to render as many different shots as possible from one source.

thanks in advance

use render layers, check the docs for an explanation, or use the free tutorial here. It's much better than using three scenes.

the quick and dirty way:
you could export your object of interest to another file and then render (same as open the scen delete what you dont want save with another name...)

Or the more sophisticated way:
you can use render layers as exposed (i suppose) on rageĀ“s stiky thread "render layers" that has many more advantages

The bad way you mean user added image

Put it this way, if you make an animation change that affects the other scenes you will have to through the whole process again and again until you're done. Learn render layers, it takes a little while to do but you'll get it and then never go back user added image

hey, alan you beated me, and you re right:

the proper wording would be:
If your deadline is near, and you dont have time to experimentate) and youre satisfied with the scene as it is: use the QD way user added image

Otherwise learn layers as alan saiduser added image
