Inspired by mtmckinley's female head I decided to try to model one too. Here's what I have done so far:

I need some comments and suggestions before I go any further. Feel free to be rough on me because I want this one to be my masterpiece (well, so far at least)

You cought me with my pants down
Btw, I noticed that I've done sort of same mistakes you (Mike) did with my model. I'm pretty sure why it happened. Photographs are always perspective shots and thus cannot be followed strictly in an orthographic viewport (especially the front reference image; the side profile has less distortion). That's why the front shot above looks a bit odd. It looks like it's been shot with a fisheye lense
A friend of mine gave me a valuable tip. After the initial render, open the image in photoshop and position/scale the face parts in there -> instant feedback and a reference for future modifications. Here's an example of the above shot after some photoshopping:
Yup, I know. Thanks for pointing it out anyway. I'll pay some extra attention on there. This is in it's very early stages. I've been working on it only for couple of nights. I'll post some updates in couple of days...
A bulky nose has charm, a "feminine" nose would perhaps be slightly narrower as the nose goes up the face. I dont know what kind of look you are after, but im no expert.
The round and protruding forehead has charm, maybe its a little too protruding and rounded, seen in profile.
And the jaw thingy is best explained with the pic below.
